2014 Internet Hall of Fame Interviews: Christina Engelbart

When you have an informed pub­lic then you can real­ly advance soci­ety. And when you have a misinformed pub­lic, it could be a recipe for dis­as­ter. And that one of the cloudy parts of the Internet is how much misinfor­ma­tion is pro­lif­er­at­ing out there and tak­ing on a life of its own.

Although many may not rec­og­nize his name, most peo­ple today are very famil­iar with the foun­da­tion­al tech­nol­o­gy that Doug Engelbart pio­neered begin­ning in the 1960s.

Artificial Intelligence and the Internet

I have a few exam­ples of things that are start­ing to hap­pen. And you can see that AI nor­mal­ly stands for arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence, but I’ve often con­clud­ed it stands for ​“arti­fi­cial idiot.” And the rea­son is very sim­ple. It turns out that these sys­tems are good, but they’re good in kind of nar­row ways.
